Sodium-ion blade batteries are here

Chinese electric car giant BYD has unveiled what it claims is the "world's first high-performance" sodium-ion BESS energy storage product, which uses its proprietary long blade battery technology.

The product uses the company's long blade batteries with a "CTS super integrated design" and is the world's first high-performance sodium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS). It features ultra-high energy density, excellent safety standards, and a flexible module design. The BESS has an energy storage capacity of 2.3MWh, a rated voltage of 1200V, and a voltage range of 800V-1400V.

Advantages of sodium-ion: "The first advantage is its abundant natural reserves, which theoretically allows for lower manufacturing costs compared to lithium-ion batteries. In addition, sodium-ion batteries have higher charge/discharge rates, a wider operating temperature range, longer cycle life, and higher safety."
